Day Trip to Volcano National Park
One of the 2 National Parks of Hawaii: The Volcanoes National Park with an active volcano that frequently erupts
Steam coming out of the active Kilauea volcano
Look into the Kīlauea Iki crater and the trail crossing it
Made it to the bottom of the crater
Looks very flat but it was actually very bumpy in the crater
Had to walk through the jungle to get back up
Stopped outside the park to look at this old lava field
Very nice smell at the Sulphur Banks, where gas comes out of the ground continuously
I decided to do an early start and drive 1.5h to the Volcanoes National Park. One of the two national Parks in the State of Hawaii and the only one on Big Island. It has an active volcano that erupts every 2 weeks (but unfortunately not while I was there).
I went to different view points of the active Volcano and hiked through the Kīlauea Iki crater, a crater that is currently inactive (last eruptions was in the 80s)
