Sunrise above the clouds

Early start to see the sunrise from Mauis highest point - Haleakalā National Park

We got up at 3:30am to drive 1.5h to see the sunrise over Maui's Haleakalā crater. The highest point of the island with 3055 meters.
We arrived around 5am and could see a lot of stars before the sun slowly came out. With around 3 degrees it was definitely the coldest spot on Maui.
The park ranger came out shortly before the sun appeared and performed the local E Ala E traditional ‘Arise’ chant which gave the sunrise an even more magical touch.
After the sun came out we slowly drove back down and stopped on the viewpoints along the way to enjoy the view on the island.
After some relaxing we drove to the west coast of Maui to celebrate a Hostel friends birthday in a restaurant and watched the sunset.
On the way we saw the first rainbow over the part that sadly burned down in a wild fire 2 years ago.
